Jez from Australia writes...

My drug of choice
So this is a new blog site that I am sure will cause some controversy, however I wanted to throw my two cents worth into the ring. My name is Jez and I'm a JK guy but more importantly I am a kayaker who chooses to live drug free. As Spencer has said before, we are'nt doing this to get anyone in trouble, instead just to show that it's ok to live life drug free.

Why do I live a drug free lifestyle?
Firstly I have seen first hand the effects drugs can do to people. Through my work in Sydney I have seen first hand how drugs change people, their behaviors and their lives. I have witnessed people go from normal sane individuals who you would have no problem in calling a friend, to drug induced fits of rage. Unfortunatly I can not go into details however I have also witnessed first hand how drugs can cut lives short. This is the main reason I am doing this. Why drop out of life, when there is so much out there to enjoy.

So this is why I choose to live a drug free lifestyle. I want to live life to the fullest and the adrenaline I get from going over a waterfall, drug free, is my drug of choice.

Safety?

Hello All,

I feel pretty priveledged that Spencer invited me to post a little su'n su'n on his blog.

Here's my deal:

My name is Chris Brigman, I am currently a regional team paddler for Dagger Kayaks and the manager of Rock Creek Down Under. I am 33 years old and I grew up in a time and place where drugs were the norm. I spent a great deal of time with folks that used drugs to escape their issues, fit in, and/or just relax. I always found it a lot easier to just sit back, relax and enjoy the world around me the way it was. I can say that I'm no angel and I tried some "safety" in my late teens, but it just didn't do it for me. I haven't really found a positive side to drugs, although I do enjoy a glass of wine or a beer or two from time to time (sometimes a couple more). I do know this, I would never put something like drugs or alcohol before the safety of a friend or fellow boater; on or off the river. This along with the fact that I would like to live a long and healthy life has made the decision for me.

Thanks for listening, and thanks Spencer for starting the movement.
